Naturalismo in High Relief
Naturalismo in High Relief is the process of giving voice to the emotions of nature in a more interactive way, where the paintings come alive.
The effect is achieved by separating the painting’s margin from the composition, bringing it forward at an angle. The elements painted in the perimeter adopt a three dimensional and sculpture like sensation, inviting the viewer to explore nature’s intense and simultaneously serene beauty.
Included in each painting is an animal with wings painted in the outer portion, symbolizing the human freedom to explore the gift of nature.

A new series of paintings by Luis Sottil
The horse commands the most noble, elegant yet strong as steel presence. Perhaps such outstanding attributes could only be expected of a magnificent creature that has undoubtedly been responsible for the greatest contribution during human evolution.
Throughout centuries this amazing animal has been a decisive force in the outcome of human achievement. From war time when entire armies depended on it, to peace times as it became an essential tool for agriculture and transportation. Human survival has been closely interdependent with the horse.
The challenge for Sottil this time was how to capture its powerful and elegant strength while being just to its invaluable contributions.
Sottil's first original series of the emotions of this beautiful animal come through clearly with his depiction of its captivating eye as well as each hair, painted individually as a tribute to its incalculable legacy.

A series of four new paintings by Luis Sottil
The
Regal Presence of Animal Dominance
This
creation of Luis Sottil’s latest subject is also the longest
in the making.
Sottil
studied and reflected on how to best communicate the emotions
that the royal
family of the animal kingdom evoked in him. This process, which
took over two years, is one of his greatest accomplishments of
his painting career to date.
Technically
speaking Sottil didn’t have to use one of his most powerful
tools, the application of bright colors, to accomplish 
his
task. He also omitted the use of a predominant element of surprise.
Instead Sottil mainly relied on composition and a life like depiction
of the eyes, enlarging them even further than usual in relationship
to the rest of the body. The composition achieved the purpose
of giving a loud and clear voice to the emotions that these magnificent
animals evoke. Sottil placed their almost full bodies close together
with realistic forward movement.
All
one needs to do to fully embrace the emotions is stand still before
any of these new creations and let them move you with their amazing
presence. Feel their confident and powerful pose, yet 
noble
and controlled attitude. Never cocky or abusive, just standing
where they belong: at the deserving top of the food chain.
The
characteristics that Sottil admires about these majestic cats
are the fact that they exercise their power in a controlled fashion.
They only use it for their protection and survival.
They
stand alone with confidence, never arrogant. They have equal rights
among their pride and have strong family ties. They are endearing
and enchanting.
